HOW TO BE HAPPY

My dear brothers and friends:

Would you like to be happy?

As you know, for a number of years now I have been trying to live a life by which God might be pleased. As a result, I can tell you that if you want to be happy, your happiness must be in God and come from God. (Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto descienden de lo alto, del Padre de las luces. Stgo 1.17)

But not everybody knows how to make God his happiness or to seek happiness in and from God and not from things around them (although the Bible is full of advice, eg Psalm 16, Mt 5.1-12. ‘Blessed’ or ‘Bienaventurados’ is the Greek word for ‘Happy’).

So, I would say:

If you want to be happy, make God happy.

This is the advice to the young man in Mt 19.16-26. But every individual needs individual advice from God. So, if our thoughts turn around and begin to find out how to make God (not ourselves) happy, success is almost guaranteed. (But don’t go and sell everything unless God himself tells you to do so).
